Meet Damla...
I believe there is so much within us that never quite makes it into words. There is something beautiful in that space between feeling something and being able to name it.
Designing became my way of speaking from that place. I’m drawn to what happens within us, and to the things that can stay with us even when we don’t quite know how to explain them.
I studied English Language and Literature at Ege University in Izmir, and poetry has always been close to me. I love how a few lines can hold much more than their literal words. A verse can carry a feeling, a memory, a story, and sometimes more than one meaning at once. What one person reads in them may not be what another sees, and both can still be true.
This way of looking at language has naturally found its way into my jewellery. I like beginning with something specific and allowing it to remain open. Something can be recognisable without being completely resolved. I like to write verses for my pieces too, as another way of entering the world of each piece.
I make my jewellery in 14ct gold, working with sculptural forms, curves, relief and detail. I care about how a piece feels as much as how it looks, and I spend a great deal of time with the small details. Ultimately, I make what I am drawn to, and I hope each piece leaves enough room for you to find something in it too.
I’m a self-taught jeweller, originally from Istanbul and now based in Budapest. Much of what I make begins with something I can’t quite put into words.
